Every day we as nerds need to salute those of us who inch sci-fi technology closer and closer to reality.  I don’t want to pretend that we actually use our phone aps as often as apple commercials suggest we do . But, of course we all have those times in the Air Port, waiting in the Jury pool, or on the altar where we need to kill some time.  Well, here are a few aps no nerd should leave their command center without.

I love this iphone app.  I will say right now that it has no actual application in daily life.  However, it is a dream come true!  I know I am not the only one who has flipped open their cell pretending it was a communicator, or used their iPhone as tricorder.

When you start it up you see the Federation of planets logo in the middle of pretty convincing Trek Graphics.  From there you can scan something and then once it’s scanned you hit library and learn more about the item your scanning.  However the best part is by far the sound effects.  I don’t know what they recorded to get the bells and whistles of the actual tricorder on there, but that made the whole thing for me. Granted it keeps saying Holly is half Vulcan and is a Male…

Some might not know about KNIGHT INDUSTRIES TWO THOUSAND, but it is by far the most advanced Artificial Intelligence ever created in a Pontiac. Before you got to know the Hoff through a youtube video on the floor of his shower, he was catching bad guys in a talking car.  So, to help you feel a little more like Michael Knight, apptism came out with this ap!  It has two settings:: The first is when you hold the iPhone vertically with the famous lines and voice of KITT, and the second is when you hold it horizontally and a digital dashboard is displayed.  The dashboard is linked to GPS with what I can only guess is an estimate of your actual speed. Pretty sweet, but I think Ford’s sync is a better version of KITT… but without the awesome sarcastic male voice.

Cylon Detector

I scanned my parents dogs ... and I knew no animal could be that happy all the time.

I know I am one of many who believes that robots are walking among us already.  How do you think Cindy Crawford still looks the way she does? Moisturizing??? COME ON.  With this handy ap from NBC Universal you can scan a friend and find out once an for all if they’re good at poker because of luck… or robotic programing.

Flux Capacitor

No need to drive an all Stainless Steel sports car 88mph with this bad boy.  When you download the Flux Capacitor Ap you just need to shake the ipod and the FC will take you back to important dates of technological history.  It is funny however that the dates always correspond to important moments in Apple history. Personally I just like having this guy going in my Mustang when I hit 88mph… it make me smile especially big when Huey Luis is playing.
