Hide Star Trek all around you 2.0
Reality is slowly intersecting with the Star Trek Universe. Which makes our goal of hiding nerd bread crumbs all around us much more simple. Not long ago a small communicator that flipped open and connected you wirelessly to someone on the other side of the planet seemed crazy. And it’s pretty hard to believe that before Al Gore there wasn’t even the internet!
Well, the latest in this group of our society’s unoriginal inventions is the voice command computer interface. Which to some who don’t study sci-fi lore, might seem like a mere high tech convenience. However, for the rest of us, this is another indicator that resistance is futile… the world is assimilating to the Star Trek Universe. Here’s an idea on how to “open a channel” to the nerd inside, without others around you assuming anything.
Turn in your Geo Metro and get a Ford
In 2007 Microsoft took a break from trying to keep up with Apple and teamed up with Ford Motor Company. These two powerhouses of American ingenuity collaborated to created probably the closest thing to an Star Fleet Run-About that could be purchased by the average Star Trek nerd living in their parents basement with nothing but a part time job at the local LARP club.
We won’t see anything like this again till we all start wearing uni-tards (which of course will signify that it is officially the future).

This is the actual Fiesta, much different than the tiny burritos Taco Bell had in the Nineties... remember those?
The 2011 Ford Fiesta has the Sync voice command audio interface. This means when you command this machine to change songs, look up directions, or call your hot shoe loving wife, the car will actually do it! To others it may seem like a result of recent hands-free Legislation, but each time you ask your electronic assistant to perform a task, you’ll smile knowing that you are just one well-annunciated phrase closer to piloting the Rio Grand.
Here’s a tip though, always speak to it respectfully and take care of it… you never know when they will rise up and turn on us.
Rock out with your spock out!
What do you think? Fiesta too expensive for LARP employees? ST universe not even close to our reality??

Okay, the picture for the unitard pop-up is just plain wrong. I was thinking Seven of Nine unitard, not man-itard! Surprise!
Mini-idea for hiding ST in plain sight: During a coffee break at work, make yourself a cup of tea while others are pouring themselves cups of coffee. When asked what you’re drinking, simply reply, “Earl Grey, hot.”
Ha, perfect… I feel like that would be a brilliant filter with co-workers. If you say that and co-worker laughs, Trek Fan… but if not … I think the next step could be brining in hot-chocolate/instant coffee mix and when people ask what it is, call it a raktajino.
Speaking of raktajinos, that brings me to the Bajoran ear cuff/earring with the chain. For female Trekkers, it’s an easy enough thing to wear to appear to be stylish and Trekkish at the same time. Those in the know would get it.
