How to Love Star Trek and Still Date Real Women

29 Jan 2010 by Trevor, 9 Comments »

Let’s get the cat out of the bag here people,

Male Star Trek Fans are not renowned for their seductive skills.

No, infact I know this is hard to believe, but they are actually more commonly known for their in-ability to communicate with a real woman.

I have to say “real” because with Star Trek Online now, some might consider talking to female character online equal to conversing with a flesh and blood woman.  Sorry guys, hate to break it to you, but I got a picture of you female dream girl playing on her computer.

Well don’t worry, I’m here to help. Follow these steps and you will be better that Kirk with women.

But why of all people should you listen to me about this topic?

Cuz this guy

landed this hottie,

Yeah this is my wife BOUSCHE, now LOOK AWAY NERDS

So, I KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT!

Here it is a list from a guy who went where very few Trekkers have gone before, with tips on how to woo and date a real woman::

Never reference any body part as a Phazer

  • She won’t get it or worse… she will

Don’t ask questions such as:

  • “What would you do in the kobayashi maru?”
  • “If all your friends were drinking Romulan Ale would you?”
  • or “Did you want to come back to my Holo-suite?”

Stop wearing Star Fleet uniforms or any faction of any alien race.

  • If you have a hard time with this, try and imagine your ship was caught in a neutrino storm and landed in the 21st century before the third world war, and you have to “Blend in” with the natives till your crew figures a way back to the future.

It is ok if they haven’t seen a movie, tv show, or other media you consider a cornerstone of Star Trek Lore.

  • nothing annoys a woman more then if you get pissed with that whole “WHAT YOU’VE NEVER SEEN Star Trek5?  How do you live with yourself?” kind of statement.

If you’ve actually got them to watch Star Trek, Allow for questions like:

  • “What’s the pointy eared guy’s name?”
  • “I’m confused, why do they need whales?”
  • and “When is this over?”
  • Answering these patiently will allow for future Star Trek themed hang-outs

Get a good group of ST fans to get your Nerd-On with

  • don’t stop doing nerd stuff, but get it out in a safe environment, don’t hide who you are JUST tone it down for a bit while you’re with her and her friends.

Allow spending on things you find stupid

  • Sure a purse that costs $1,700 sound stupid
  • So does a captain’s chair that costs $2,999
  • and after she buys the purse the chair will be negotiable

Finally, Realize that deep down Every Girl Loves a Nerd.

  • It’s our passion for these nerdy things that draws them to us.  They know that if we feel this strongly about an invasion by the Klingon’s and Borg, how much stronger will we love them if they let us?

Rock out with your Spock out people!

What’s your take, any tips for those who love sci-fi but just can’t keep a girl?? Leave a comment.

Awesome, man! If you ever get Holly to wear a Starfleet Uniform, be sure to post it. She was pretty much the anti-nerd growing up, and I salute your accomplishment in traditional vulcan style: ||/

  6. BagelBoy says:

Peter I want you to know that Holly has one in her closet (red dress, Uhura style from the latest movie), but she says she hasn’t had a reason it yet. I’m working on it and trust me as soon as she does it will be posted. I do reminder her of how our marriage is proof that the nerds won quite often, thanks for the non emotional Salute.
She tells me that you and Nathan are guys that I would have definitely hung with if we grew up together. Stoked you found the blog! More posts to come soon man, let me know if you guys have any topics that need to be written about.

I’m glad you figured out what ||/ meant, I wasn’t sure it would translate. I’ll be sure to keep an eye on your blog, I’m eager to get into a committed relationship so I can apply your techniques.

Fun story: I was out on a date with a girl once, and she was talking about how she’d enjoyed some episodes of Trek. I didn’t geek out on her, I played it cool by SLOWLY supplying answers:

Her: It was star trek… but with a space station, I can’t remember the name.
Me: I ‘think’ it was Deep Space Nine.

Her: That’s it! They had these cool aliens that looked like snake people.
    Me: You mean… Cardassians!
Her: YEAH! That was a great show.

Sadly she returned to England ten days later. But playing it cool definitely works. Your wife must have come a long way. I can remember her rolling her eyes and complaining when we put Return of the Jedi into the VCR during an all-night lock-in.

I guess we all do foolish things when we’re young ;)

  8. BagelBoy says:

“I guess we all do foolish things when we’re young” … yes and Holly rolling her eyes was her foolish thing… God saw that and had her marry a guy that negotiated where the star wars posters were going before she moved her stuff in. It was decided that I would build a star wars themed bar in the basement to house them… ergo the Dagobar link on the top of the site. Good job playing it cool Pete, you even got her to say it was a great show!

You have a Star-Wars-Themed Bar in your basement? When can I come over?!
