Ok Let’s Be Honest About Star Trek XI (latest one)

I’ve been talking to friends after posting earlier in the week, for those who didn’t read it check it out ( Star Trek TV SHOW?). I stated that the latest Star Trek movie acted like a bridge between the dedicated Fans and those that only think pointed ears are on Orlando Bloom. To me it was something everyone could enjoy, but of course that’s because I ENJOYED IT, so ok I’m biased. I started thinking in a way I don’t normally do… I started debunking Star Trek. For those dedicated Fans I need to say that I had to force myself to take myself to that place, but alas I did it. There are few things I want to cover but I’ll do it over a few different posts, but here ya go,
some reasons Star Trek Might Not Have Worked for Some:
1) Time Travel
This concept works for almost every sci-fi fan born since 1947. If brought up in a Trek episode or movie the question usually isn’t whether time travel exists, the question is usually how it happened: Did something bounced off the deflector, Anyone messed with nutrinos, or was there a black hole involved? Also it’s important to know the different types of time travel logic… there are two camps : Back to the Future ( where you can change the past and change everything) or Bill and Teds (you going back will not change anything everything you do in the past happened already so go nuts).
It is important to understand that Star Trek goes with the Back to the Future Camp. However, how can a first time viewer know this??? In the latest movie the story line was leaning completely on the use of Time Travel. We have two Spocks, one old one who’s played by a guy who sang a folk album once and searched for bigfoot, and another one who played someone who killed people with super powers on a show no one watches anymore… I mean you could probably gather that there was some sort of time travel or teleportation, but how can anyone make sense of the two Spock debacle if you’ve never seen the The Voyage Home or First Contact ?
So, I need to say that this is confusing. All of sudden Eric Bana flies through a big thing that looks like the dust cloud from the Armageddon meteor, and kills some blonde guy who ends up being Kirk’s Dad. That then ends up changing who the captain was of the Enterprise, and who raised Kirk. Then later old Spock flies through the Michael Bay cloud-of-time in a ship that would have definitely been called the C-wing in Star Wars. They tried hard to explain all this to us through Old Spock touching Chris Pine’s head, but I need to confess it was a lot to take in, and this could have ruined everything for some one who doen’t know what would happen if you Hit Warp Nine and Sling Shot Around the Sun.
But what do you think? Is Time Travel in the newest Star Trek Confusing? Post Below.
