New Star Trek TV show?
I am one of what at one point seemed to be a dying breed. The last Star Trek Series was Canceled in 2005, the movies were making less money then an indie film about famous kneecaps. Which left those who love Star Trek, with just nostalgic tv and film productions to act as our proverbial geek Snuggie, wrapping us in the warmth of a universe with nothing but humanoid aliens from millions of light years away who all spoke better english than the majority of Orange County, VIVA LA FEDERATION! Ironically the future seemed bleek for a reality based on a beautiful portrait of united effort for exploration and peace. However, then there was Felicity.
Little did we know that behind the hormone filled dramas of Felicity and Alias was our Neo… our Jake Sully… The savior of the Federation, JJ Abrams. I must say he accomplished what no director or producer of Star Trek did before…
he got my wife to watch.
Which really says it all, because my wife is a perfect example of some one who doesn’t like the old Star Trek. JJ created a movie that not only respectfully tipped it hat to the roots of Gene Roddenberry’s creation. But, re-invented it in a way that didn’t Alienate anyone. If you like good stories, awesome special effects, and beautiful 20-somethings… uh you’ll like Star Trek. Here’s the thing though, he made Star Trek sexy, cool, witty, stunning, but it still had all the Star Trek STUFF… Spock, Vulcans, Warp Drive, Phasers, everthing. It’s been said before, but JJ jump started it all over again with new followers that need more than what is out there now.
Talks about a new Star Trek movie are under way and the release date is in 2012, however what about TV? With Battlestar Galactica Over, and Star Trek TV shows living as only zombie reruns on TV land and Spike. Why not make a new TV show? Look at the quality of production we have now, how awesome and how great could the writting be with the technology and talent out there today.
Personally I’m excited to see what fight scenes could look like when we had combat moves other than open palm punches in the arsenal. The link below is an old article on the subject, but if you have any new leads on Star Trek TV shows post them!
What are your thoughts? Should we just let JJ do the movies and leave TV alone? Should NBC do a Star Trek TV show from 10-11 on weekdays?
